![]() Quammen traces the origins of island biogeography to the pioneering work by Charles Darwin and the lesser known but equally important Alfred Wallace, both of whom based their theories on research performed on islands. Looking at what species survive or go extinct and how species evolve and change on islands can provide, in theory, practical information on what a species requires to remain viable into the future. Islands make useful case studies, Quammen explains, because their isolation and size make it possible to examine the entire system. Island biogeography is the study of the distribution of species in island habitats. Part scientific explanation and part travelogue, Quammen escorts his readers through the sometimes bitter infighting among ecologists and takes them island hopping around the globe to look at real cases of ecosystem decay. The Song of the Dodo is David Quammen's journalistic account of the development of the branch of ecology called island biogeography and an examination of how its theories might be applied to modern conservation efforts. ![]() ![]() ![]() Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability. ![]() Tuck into these darkly funny horror stories starring creepy-cute food folk, presented in a photographed diorama-comic format that brings the stories to colourfully disturbing life. Their latest graphic novel, Bites of Terror, is out now with Quirk Books. In the tradition of Tales from the Crypt and other classic horror comics, Bites of Terror proves that horror and humor are a tasty combination. Liz and Jimmy Reed are the husband-and-wife team behind Cuddles and Rage. You'll be tempted to reach into the pages and save the cute food people from their fates.but you can't. And because presentation is so important for every meal, the stories are told in "diorama comic" format- they read like a comic or graphic novel, but instead of drawings, the images are photographs of sculpted characters, looking good enough to eat and staged on custom-made sets full of fascinating details. ![]() Each tale is introduced by your horrible host, the Cake Creeper, a partially eaten groom's cake with an agenda of his own. From an ice cream cone who makes a deal with the devil('s food cake), to a moldy strawberry who wants one last dip in a bowl of cream, Bites of Terror offers ten macabre, hilarious tales featuring adorable anthropomorphic food characters caught in horror story scenarios complete with twist endings. ![]() ![]() Über den erkenntnistheoretischen Gehalt dieses Romans sollte auch Sara Grans Flirt mit dem Irrationalen nicht hinwegtäuschen. Along with a handful of other women - Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Connie Chung, Oprah Winfrey - Couric was one of the people who determined how American television audiences understood the world. At the peak of her fame at the turn of the millennium, which coincided with the heyday of the Today show and the primacy of the morning network-news program, she enjoyed near-unrivaled power. That career would wind up being a blockbuster. The carrots were on account of the Scarsdale Diet, the deprivational fad to which the 22-year-old Couric had committed because her plan “was to look as good as possible for my wet hot American summer” before “finding a job - maybe even a career - in TV news.” In the weeks before the publication of her memoir, Going There, Katie Couric and I would play a dark little game called Funny or Fucked Up? Over coffee, lunch, and Zoom calls, I would bring up an anecdote from the book - like, say, the first sentence, which is about the time she ate so many carrots in the summer after college that her skin turned orange - and ask her what, exactly, her reader was supposed to make of it. ![]() ![]() As said in my review summary, there is a preference for the more quaint and charming "The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny" and "The Tailor of Gloucester", 'The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends' is one of those rarities where all the episodes/stories are great. ![]() ![]() Even the animation adheres very closely to Potter's illustrations. This reviewer still loves all of Beatrix Potter's stories to bits, some a little better than others but all of them are timeless, and 'The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends' show complete respect and faithfulness to them with every bit of their charm and memorability. One of my favourite shows ever as a child, 'The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends' still holds up as one of my favourite. ![]() ![]() ![]() I personally am a fan of romance novels but Think with the large, on-going issues with the core relationship at the heart of the trilogy.
